SYFY Back to the future

Paper tribute to Back to the Future in its 35th anniversary

We worked closely with SYFY London and SYFY Madrid to make a tribute to the huge 80’s classic, Back To The Future. 35 years after the film’s premiere we had the chance to pay our respect to an iconic piece of cinema from our youth.

After considering many different creative options we choose to create our own version of the film in paper. The DeLorean, Marty Mc Fly, Doc and the incredible time travel cut out in paper! Everything handmade and filmed in stop motion  and without special effects or postproduction.

Using scenes from the movie as our reference, we designed every detail. We prepared the props and sets to film and cut a sequence of the car traveling through time …to end up at El Palacio de la Prensa – the well-known theatre in the centre of Madrid, where the revival screening event was taking place. It took us two weeks of preproduction (with a lot of cutting and crafting!) and 1 week of filming. And it was worth it.

As well as the videos for TV and at the venue, we created a poster promoting the event which was plastered all over Madrid. We also wanted to make a special souvenir for those who would attend and support the revival of Back to the Future, so we prepared a paper cut-out of the DeLorean, that they could put together to create their own paper time machine.

We also created special artwork and menus for the bars and restaurants around “El Palacio de la Prensa” who also participated in the promotion by serving special SYFY inspired tapas.
